The Lady Grizzlies hosted the opening round of the regional tournament on May 14th facing the Chanute Blue Comets. The Lady Grizzlies put four runs on the scoreboard in the third inning. Rachel Stevenson led off with a walk, Tiara Ford reached base on an error. Kaysha Julich doubled to score Ford and Stevenson. Shelbie Foister singled to put Molly Stevenson courtesy runner for Julich across the plate. Allie Reynolds then scored Foister with a fielder’s choice. In the 6th, the Lady Grizzlies scored two more with singles by Kelsie Goins and Morgen Wulf and an error by the Lady Comets. Allie Reynolds fanned 13 Lady Comets.
With the win, the Lady Grizzlies advanced to the semi-finals to face the Lady Vikings; a team who they had swept in league play 8 -0 and 3- 1 in ten innings. The Lady Grizzlies made quick work of this game defeating the Vikings 10 -0. The Lady Grizzlies struck first in the 2nd inning. Kelsie Goins, Aubri Kimbrough, and Kaity Rash all singled to start the inning. Morgen Wulf drew a walk and Tiara Ford moved her with a sac bunt and Kaysha Julich stepped in and singled to score Wulf and Ford. This gave the Lady Grizzlies four runs on the scoreboard. LC added another run in the 5th off of a single and double by Shelbie Foister and Allie Reynolds. The 6th inning proved to be exciting for the Lady Grizzlies. Kaity Rash singled to start it. Morgen Wulf reached on a base on balls. Tiara Ford and Kaysha Julich reached on errors. Shelbie Foister stepped up to the plate and drove a home run over the left center field fence to put the game into run rule effect. Allie Reynolds once again showed her dominance with 11 strikeouts.
The Lady Grizzlies advanced to the finals with the victory and one win away from the state tournament, something that has escaped them. Their opponent would be the Lady Trojans of Girard. The game was knotted at 0 until the bottom of the 5th inning. The Lady Grizzlies got hot at the plate. Tiara Ford and Kaysha Julich each singled to start it. Allie Reynolds singled to score Ford and Teak Wood, courtesy runner for Julich. Allie Reynolds singled and Kelsie Goins then singled to score Reynolds for three runs. In the 6th, Molly Stevenson singled, Julich then stepped up and doubled home Stevenson. Shelbie Foister was primed again for heroics. This time she put one over the right center field fence to score Teak Wood courtesy runner for Julich. In the top of the 7th Reynolds retired the side the give the Lady Grizzlies a 6- 0 win a trip to Salina. Reynolds had 12 strikeouts in the game.
The Lady Grizzlies have won the SEK for three years in a row and have gone 16 – 0 the past two years. They have won 46 league games in a row with the last loss coming on March 30th of 2010. They will enter the state tournament as the number one seed and will face Mulvane at 5:00 PM on Friday, May 25th.
